Rehab Alumna!

Thank you for all the great comments, prayers, calls, cards -- We are blessed by all of you, our friends. In addition to this, many from our church family have prepared and delivered wonderful meals, and we are grateful for your labor of love for us.

Friday was graduation day for Shea! It was her last full day of rehab, and her little ceremony was at 3:00. All the therapists were there and her psychologist as well, and each commented on Shea's accomplishments. At the end she was given a certificate of graduation from Shepherd Pathways Rehabilitation. Everyone clapped, pictures were taken, and we said goodbye to all of the patients and therapists whom Shea had befriended while there. She will only need to do physical therapy on a regular basis and occupational and speech therapy as needed. A psychologist is available for Shea as well. A program called The Bridge is an extension of Sheperd Pathways, and they will keep in contact with Shea for a year or as long as is needed.

Shea has been spending a good amount of time this weekend alone. That's not typical of Shea who normally flies through life at the speed of light! She enjoys it at times, and then there are times of discouragement -- times when she wants to grab her keys and go to Starbucks with friends, help out with the Jr. Highers at church, drive to work and be independent. Thankfully, that will all be a reality again someday. Shea has taken up knitting, of all things! "Mom, it's all the rage, you know"!! So she's working on a beautiful olive green scarf -- it's the size of a coaster right now, but it's coming along!

Shea's CT scan is scheduled for Tuesday at Scottish Rite Hospital. This will help Dr. McKay determine for sure what procedures will need to be done at her next surgery.

That's pretty much all our news here. Thanks again for your prayers and your continued interest in our sweet Shea.

Love to you,

The Hickoks

Hickoks,

Congratulations on this important milestone in Shea's recovery process. I'll be praying that Shea's CT reveals exactly what's needed in order to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of her next surgery. We love and miss you, each in turn, and are so grateful for the obvious ways in which God has shown you His love through the wonderful people surrounding you....

All our Love,

Hayes

Congratulations on your graduation, Shea! And, I'm so pleased to hear about the knitting. The human heart's desire to create comes from God, our magnificent Creator. I just read a good quote today: "Why should we use our creative power?...Because there is nothing that makes people so generous, joyful, lively, bold and compassionate, so indifferent to fighting and the accumulation of money." All through your young life, you have been discovering ways to create! We are praying about these next steps in recovery. With love always, Sharon & Gaylard

Hi Shae. So glad to hear that you are doing so well.

Wow, did we miss you today. I started off the day listening to my favorite cuts from your CD (#6 and #8 still just blow me away).

Your Dad led two incredible worship services, with an amazing Casting Crowns video to remind us what is important and eternal.

Then the Jr. High Ignition met, and I kept expecting to look up and see you next to Lauri. Then Luke and Brad did an amazing job leading worship, and I wanted you to hear it.

Both the groups sent greetings home to you, and I was reminded of how many thousands of people have been praying for you!

We prayed for you tonight, and I am blessed to see your recent update to the Blog. I hope you have a great week celebrating your "graduation", and I hope you can write something in this blog soon, too.

I still have one of the many "I pray for Shae" ribbons that went our in the weeks following your accident, and everytime I see it I thank God for bringing you back in such a miraculous fashion.

We love the Hickok family so much, and we are so grateful that God brought all of you to Atlanta.

Well, TTFN

Tim (for the family)

Hickok family,
I just wanted to encourage shea and tell her that is she feel like going somewhere and it able to then she should do it. IF I knew you personally and you and I were best friends then I would come and pick you up and take you out with me. I am not saying that your friends won't do that. What I am trying to tell you is that it doesn;t matter what you look like right now. I would like you just the way you are. The first thing that I thought when you said that you were knitting was I wish I knew how to knit. I am glad that you are doing something instead of just sitting around doing nothing. Like I said before just keep trusting the Lord. He will heal you in His perfect timing.
Praying for you.

ps. Luke I am praying for you to, brcause I know it must be hard to see your sister going through so much grief and pain. I know you must be going through the same thing. Never forget that God loves you very much.

Becca still cherishes a little butterfly that your great-grandma knit for her when she was in her Sunday School class. I'm sure you are a "natural" at it as everything you do reflects the awesome artistic ability God has given you, Shea! So glad to hear of your graduation. Here's a little request: (Just like a teacher, huh?) Start journaling , if you haven't already. I know someday you are going to want to look back and reflect on all you have been feeling and learning through this experience. I'll bet you've already got a song or two in mind. Please know you will remain in my prayers and that many many little ones hold you up before the throne each school day. Love, Mrs. Noland

Shea,

Congratulations! So glad to hear that you've had another graduation. I'll share the good news with our girls. And I'll be sure to let my niece Sara know how your knitting is coming along. Did you know her Grandma Bachtel taught her how last year, and she's made several scarves--including her own design for her American Girl doll.

Like so many others, we are enjoying listening to your CD. I wish you could hear the girls singing along :)

Much love to the Hickok family,
Lisa (for the Smiths)

hey beautiful, sweet Shea!!!

I am so glad to hear that you have graduated from Shepard's! You are an amazing person..just think of this time as a break or a vacation from work..just relax! You know, when i was out, i took long bubble baths, with candles, and I listened to relaxing spa music..it really did the trick. It takes your mind off of things and just lets your body heal. I got to the point where i couldn't even go to sleep sometimes without that music, and to this day, when my mind wanders and i can't go to sleep, i will turn on that music and it will put me right to sleep.

Just a little tip that might help you relax a bit! I love you girl and can't wait to see ya soon!

Love, Dani

Shea,
Congratulations on completing your Pathways! Way to go girl. I hope the knitting soothes your heart. Both Seth and Cole crochet. They mostly make beanies, but Cole has made a scarf. We will continue to pray for the doctors wisdom in your upcoming procedures. I will especially pray that you will overcome your self-consiences and get out and be with all of us that love you. We love the CD.

We continue to pray for your brothers Luke and Jessie, plus Mom and Dad. I pray there will be moments of family time that seem back to normal and special memories can be made.

Love,
Barry, Teresa, Seth and Cole

Shea,

What a praise that you MADE IT through all of those hard days of rehab!!! You did it like such a trooper and were such a blessing.
You are so much in my heart every day that you will have such endurance to keep going. We fall down, but we get up. May you face whatever the next step is with confidence and hope.
Col. 1:11 sais:
We also pray that you will be stengthened with his glorious power so that you will have all the patience and endurance you need.
Step be step, He will continue to lead you. May these quiet times be healing times for you as you pour out your heart to God.
May he answer each and every prayer and grant a healing miracle over you as you trust in Him!!!!!

Praying for you all,

Denise N

Dear Shea and family,

Hello from the Guthries. We are so happy to hear of your graduation from therapy! That's wonderful and it makes you feel a step closer to full recovery, I'm sure. We'll pray for the CT scan to show exactly what is needed for the dr. We are sorry that you'll need some corrective surgery, but hopefully this won't be as hard as all the previous things you have been through. God will see you through each trial and help you endure it and come out stronger and able to help others when you are through it all. We love all of you!

Continuing request for my (Linda) Mom. She is still in the hospital (since Jan 4th) and I know you understand long hospital visits! She was transferred to a "step down" hospital to care for her dialysis and therapy to get moving again. She has lost her appetite, is content to just stay in the bed (I think it is more effort to move the older we get). We are still praying the dialysis will help her kidneys to begin functioning again. That may take three months.

Karen is back at college and discouraged with her Phys. Science class and not understanding some of it. Otherwise, she is doing ok.

Still praying for all of you in this long process and that the Lord will continue to sustain you.

Shea, I know your birthday is coming up soon! Happy 19th birthday!

Love, David, Linda & Karen

Congratulations! I am continuing to pray that our Father will restore your joy-that you would have that unfathomable peace deep inside, and that your physical body would be restored and knitted back together as well. Have fun with your knitting and be reminded that each little stitch/loop (I don't know the correct terminology!!) fits together to make something beautiful! That is what God is doing to you-every day!
With love- Marian Madden

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11
