One Miracle at a Time

Yesterday Shea had an appointment with Dr. Nunn who was very pleased with his work! He removed the stitches from Shea's left eye so that she could open it. The staples in her head can't be removed for a few more days, so Shea still can't use a blow dryer -- she wouldn't want to heat up the staples! Her left eye was raised one centimeter, and even though it's still hard to really tell what she's going to look like, it's almost level with her right eye.

Our next stop was Dr. Mills' office. He wanted to take pictures of her and document everything as he will use Shea's case in his teaching classes. When she walked in, Dr. Mills, the nurses and the assistants gathered around Shea and could not believe how good she looks after only one week. Dr. Mills had patients in the dental chairs waiting to be worked on, and so he asked Shea if she minded being introduced to his patients. He shared the story with everyone and they were all amazed at how well she is doing after only seven days. Then Shea begged Dr Mills for her three front teeth -- "I'll even bake you cookies!" He high fived her and said, "One miracle at a time, Shea."

Last of all we went to see Dr. Salama, the orthodontist. Since Shea's hard palate was also broken and expanded a centimeter during surgery, they had to broaden it even more. We will turn the "key" a couple turns each day for the next month and then the braces can be put on her teeth. How long this will all last, we don't know. Shea tries to be lighthearted about getting braces again --"Oh, it's going to be so much more fun the second time around!"

The recovery time is supposed to be six weeks, but after one week we are amazed at Shea's quick improvement. Thank you again for your interest and prayers on Shea's behalf.

Love,

S & S

Dear Shea,

How good to read your blog tonight and see the further progress you are making. We praise God with you for each step toward your complete healing. It must seem arduously slow to you, Sweetie, but it sounds like the doctors and other medical personnel think you are doing wonderfully.

I'm glad you are off the heavier medications. Having pain in your face must be singularly difficult to bear, so we're praying that the otc drugs will relieve it altogether.

Grandpa Anderson and the rest of us here would love to have you come for a visit when you are up to it. I'll pull out my blender and make sure we have graham crackers and milk on hand! We'll laugh and make some great concoctions!

We're eager to hear of your continued healing...one miracle at a time.

Love to you and all the family,

Aunt Kathy for all the Falks and Grandpa A.

Yeah- One miracle at a time is right! Miracles, they'll keep coming, I just know it! I am so glad that you are progressing faster than the doctors expected, but that has been the story all along for the most part- all of this is indeed a miracle. God is definitely healing you! I hope that the pain is decreasing, although the pain from braces is not fun- the thought makes my mouth hurt and turning the key- ouch. Bless your heart- this will all pass. You are definitely a trooper.
A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. Prov 17:22
The Tylenol and Aleve are good too!

When you pass through the waters I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames wil not set you ablaze. For I am the Lord, your God, the Holy one of Israel your Savior -Isaiah 43:1-3

Take care- Love and prayers,
Marian Madden

Amazing!

I must say, though, I will think of you every time I pick up a key to drive my car, open my front door, unlock the back door ... and pray for quick relief from the ache that is sure to accompany Shea's "turning of the key".

Thank you, Steve and Susan, for keeping us up on Shea's progress. You are each loved and prayed for on a moment by moment basis, by people all over the country. Thanks for sharing the answers to our prayers. We are anxiously watching to see what He will do next.

Love,

Carolyn
