The Knitting Continues!

It's Tuesday morning, Steve's birthday. The kids got up a little earlier this morning to prepare a big breakfast-in-bed for their dad's special day. We gathered around Steve and sang "Happy Birthday!" and the five of us sat around the bed reminiscing and laughing about lots of family memories. We dreamed about the possibility of taking a family trip to somewhere none of us has ever been -- Luke teased Shea that with 45 screws in her face, we'd need extra time at the airport for her to be frisked! I looked around at our family, overwhelmed with joy and gratitude realizing we are all here together.

As we talked, we asked Shea to do the eye test. Every few days we pull her hair back away from her eyes and ask her to scowl, raise her eyebrows, wrinkle her nose, etc. This morning there was new movement!! We all saw a flicker above her left eyebrow, and she was able to squint the eye as well!!!!!! What a gift on this special day! We cheered and thanked God for His beautiful handiwork -- the Master knitter! Even though we are saddened that Bill Jones, Mike's dad, does not have Mike with him today, (today is Bill's birthday as well) we know that he rejoices for Shea and truly loves her like a daughter. Happy Birthday, Billy! We all love you!

Thanks to all of you for rejoicing with us as we rejoice and weeping as we weep. It's a blue sky, sunny day here in Atlanta and in our hearts.

Warmly,

The Hickoks

Hello Hickok Family!

Loved reading about Steve's birthday celebration and Shea's special gift--movement above her left eyebrow. That's wonderful!

Congratulations to you, Shea, on finishing your rehab with flying colors. We know you have some tough times ahead, but how comforting to know that God will be with you just as He has these past two months.

We love you and thank the Lord for the testimony you've been to us and so many others. You are in our thoughts and prayers daily.

Our Shea Star,

Can you believe how our families have been "knitted" together during the last few months? Even the dads have the same birthday. Amazingly, through all of this, Bill and I have felt extremely blessed. We knew immediately after the accident that we were in the presence of the Lord and surrounded by the protection of his angels. Bill is a rock, and we are so glad we have each other as a family. Our faith is the ONLY thing that gets us through, but we trust and know that Michael is in HIS presence now.

Happy Birthday Steve - We love you guys (and Cali too)

Happy Birthday Steve! We are still reading about the miracle and praying for you guys. When we were saying prayers last night, Nicholas was getting squirmy, so we started to stop short, and he said, "Mommy, Miss Shea?" Faith like a child!

Happy Birthday, Steve!!!

Shea, that's so great to hear about your eye!! That's amazing that it happened on your dad's birthday!
Shea, you are amazing, keep your faith up. I love you and miss you.

To the whole family..I love you all. I love getting to see Steve and Luke up on stage again, getting to see Jess, and seeing Luke at youth group. I was sad that guitar had to be cancelled today, Luke, but you will get a call today from me.

I love you all (including Cali girl)

Today I searched for 'knitting' blogs, expecting to find the usual commentary about different ways to turn the heel of a sock, the difficulties of using up 'stash yarn' when tempted to shop for yummy new yarns, and the merits of one type of knitting needle over another. Instead I found your blog. I was a little puzzled by the comments about 45 screws in Shea's face, and was led to find the beginning of the story.

Thank you so much for sharing your story of faith, courage and miracles. May God continue to bless you all and keep you in the hollow of his hand as you continue to heal, emotionally and physically. God bless the family and friends that surround you and care for you. God is so good!

Susan,
I could feel the joy in your writing! I'm so thankful that as a family you can rejoice and keep your sense of humor. Yesterday, 1/30 was Barry's birthday. We celebrated on Sunday with a trip along with Cole to the new Georgia Aquarium. It's totally awesome. I would highly recommend it. There your family can pretend they are on a tropical vacation.

Thanks again for letting us have a little peek into your families lives. God Bless you and keep you

Well, Happy Birthday, Steve! I'm jealous of your sunshine (... yep ... still raining here in Portland). So much to be happy and grateful for today!

Susan, thank you for taking time out of your day to share your joy with us.

Shea, may each day bring you something new ... a new ability, a new enlightening, a new idea, a new feeling ... who knows what it could be ... just something new. Watch for it! Wake up each day with great expectations. You know you can expect great things from God!

Jess, I hope you got your share of cake! It must have been hard to be away from your parents while they were worried about Shea, but you were so brave! You deserve all the hugs you get (... and I'm sure you get a ton of hugs!)

Luke, you're especially on my heart today ... don't know why. My prayers are focused on you tonight. Blessings, peace and joy for you this week, and a light heart - free from the heaviness you've carried inside these past weeks - if only for tonight. Pleasant dreams, Luke.

PS... If it's OK, I'd like to ask a couple of questions: What is Shea able to eat these days? I have some wonderful soup recipes I'd love to share. And how is the trach-wound healing? How are Luke's ribs? (... now he knows how Adam felt after the nap when God made Eve!) Happy to know whatever you feel comfortable sharing!

Greetings: Hope you had a great birthday Steve, and what a gift to have your girl show more facial movement.
Jesus said "in the world you will have tribulation: but...be of good cheer; I have overcome the world." Jesus says he delivers us not from trouble but "in" trouble. "He that dwelleth in the Secret Place of the Most High...there shall no evil befall thee" Nothing touches the place that we are at one with God. The strain of the overcoming life is what strengthens us. You have accepted the strain that God has allowed in to your family, and He has given you His strength. You have been a blessing to me as I have read your blog and watched how you have taken the strength the Lord has given moment by moment, not fretting about tomorrows strength. Shea's situation would be impossible to anyone But..God. I love, But....God.
Blessings, Debbie Miller..Linda's friend

Happy Birthday Steve! It is hard to imagine the relief that must sweep over you at times as you realize that you do indeed have the whole family together. That relief I know is tempered by the awareness that the Jones family is not complete. So on the one hand we are thankful for this miracle of life and on the other we cotinue to remember a broken family. God bless you Bill for all the support you have shown in the midst of your own grief. You don't know what an inspiration you have been.

And congratulations Shea on the new movement. It may be just a flicker but we'll take it.

I hadn't listened to one of your CD tracks in a while but I clicked on it a couple days ago and each time I do I shake my head at the personality that shines through your music. I know others hear the same thing; there's something special there. Some day we will hear you sing in person. What a day that will be!!

Love,

Uncle John

Praise God from whom all blessings flow! I am so thrilled about your family's joy and fun times! Thank you for sharing so much of your lives with us. If any of us could possibly begin to comprehend how God is using this tragedy for blessing in so many peoples' lives across the world we would be absolutely speechless and awestruck. Our God is so mighty and good. Steve, Happy Birthday! Shea, it makes me laugh to think about trying to scowl!! Thank heaven for wrinkles, right!
Lots and lots of prayers and love for your family- Marian Madden

Happy Birthday Steve,
That’s from the whole family!! Rick sang the happy birthday song to you last night...yes he actually sang it. We’ve been going to a church that sings a lot of old hymns and I have heard him singing quite loud lately…who knows maybe God is revealing that he’s choir material. You would be so proud of him! He also keeps asking me to ask you about your dog. I’m not sure if this is appropriate for this blog sight, but Rick insists that I ask you. In dwelling on your past experiences with dogs…Rick wants to know if your keeping your legs a fair distance away. Of course he put it more bluntly; I’m trying to be kind.
On a more serious note, (its a lot more fun not to be, but …) what a great gift that God gave you and your family with Shea’s new eye movement! It’s just another reminder what we all take for granted. God has certainly “knit” us together so well that it takes those snags to remind us just how perfect God’s creation is. We are so boldly praying that it be God’s will to mend Shea quickly, both emotionally as well as physically.
We are so glad to hear you and Luke are back at church singing and playing again. I can only imagine how thankful your church is about you being back.
You and your family are in our prayers continually,
Love to you all,
The Butlers
PS…You didn’t get a bulldog did you?

It was amazing and great to be back with Luke in guitar. I missed it so much. He's a great guy.
I love you, and your whole family!
