No Teeth . . . No Problem!

It has been a few days since we last posted as things have been beautifully quiet around here. Shea had a few appointments last week. Dr. Nunn removed the staples from Shea's head which she said was painless. Dr. Mills had his theater full of dentists again, and Shea was the subject. She stood before the doctors and answered questions all while missing three front teeth. Shea sat in the front row and was surprised as Dr. Mills proceeded to show the graphic photographs of her surgery, and for this she was completely unprepared. She did fine though and was actually quite fascinated with it all!

Shea was determined to get some temporary teeth last week, but Dr. Mills said she would probably need to wait a month. That was not a good day. Shea pretty much had a meltdown as she has recovered so quickly and wants to get out yet the lack of teeth is holding her back . . . or so we thought! It's Sunday morning, and I can hear Shea getting ready for church! We never dreamed that she would allow those she loves and strangers as well to see her for who she is physically right now. So proud of our girl today!

I must close or Shea and I will be late for church!

Love,

The Hickoks

I love to hear the words "Healing so fast." But I'm sorry you don't get to have your teeth for a couple more weeks. It is wonderful that you're not going to let that keep you secluded. There are lots of people who want to hug your neck, with or without the brilliant white smile. And hugs help you heal even faster!

Sorry I can't give you a real hug myself, but here's a cyber-hug for you ... a BIG ONE! :-)

And thank you for letting us know when you're having difficulty, too. It is important to know of your hard moments as well as your moments of victory. It helps us know how to pray.

Love you!

Hi Shea:

I just wanted you to know that I have my meltdowns every week or so and I haven't had surgery in 15 years!

I wish we had pictures of you in front of Dr. Mills' auditorium. I can just see you up there shaking your head wondering what all the fuss is about.

Here's hoping and praying the depressing days will be fewer and farther between.

Looking forward to seeing your mom up here for Maggy's wedding in a few days.

We Love You Shea,

Uncle John

Dear Shea, choosing to be with God's people is one of the most strengthening things His child may do. And, you may never know how very encouraging (or convicting) your choices will be for those who look on. Heb. 12:1,2. May God give you days of sweet, gentle rest and continued strengthening and healing. In His Love, Gaylard and Sharon Moore

Isn't it amazing that our Shea can look better WITHOUT her teeth than we do with out teeth? Something isn't right about that.
I am so proud of you girl, you are an inspiration to all of us. Keep smiling!

Shea doesn't know me, but I went to school with Mike and had a couple classes with him and Blair. I have been following Shea's story and progress from the start and I am so happy each time I read that she is improving. Most of the time I get a little teary eyed just reading and knowing that someone as special and strong as her had to go through such an obstacle. I only wish I could be as strong and as brave as she has been in overcoming each and every day. Although I have never met Shea, I have seen old pictures. Last night I had a dream that I saw Shea, and she looked beautiful. I didn't recognize her at first then I did a double take and recognized her from the pictures. I looked at her with only one little scar on her face underneath her eye. I cried for her and she hugged me. It was such a beautiful dream, and it felt like God was showing me that everything was going to be okay.

Although I will probably never meet you, I continue to pray for you everyday. Good luck in the future, and if you can overcome this, you can overcome anything. God Bless.

Allison

I left a comment a couple of weeks ago - but don't think it went through. Anyway, just want you to know that you all continue to be in our thoughts and very special prayers. We are so very proud of you, Shea. You are such an amazing example to us all!! We rejoice at your progress and our hearts ache for you when you are understandibly 'down' at times. Remember that you are still 'human' with very real emotions and feelings. You're such a Star!!

You are so Blessed to have the family that you have - such a support to you, and so understanding of your needs. We know that it has been a 'long haul' for you all and admire you for the way you have dealt with all that you have had to go through. We are so grateful to our Lord for all the peace, comfort and strength that He has given to you, and continues to give you.

God bless,
Love you guys!

We haven't written in such a LONG time, but we haven't forgotten you, Shea.

I just re-read several posts from the last couple of weeks - still AMAZED by how God has worked in and through you! (Steve - I've got an idea for a song for you. . . we need to talk!)

We continue to remember you all in prayer - love from Phoenix!

Hey Shea! I'm so bummed I didn't get to see you on Sunday! =[

I love Annie's comment. And yes she has been working on her moves. I've been tackled twice by her.

I hope to see you soon! I should be over at your house soon.

I love you girl! And I am so proud of you! You are awesome! Keep up your faith in God, and don't loose it! I know you won't.

Love you!

Dear Shea,

It is a real encouragement to all of us to see how you made the decision to go to church even though you don't yet have your front teeth. We all say how it's what's inside that counts, but most of us tend to act as though it's all about the outside. It surely reminds me of the verse that says that man looks on the outward appearance, but God looks on the heart. I'm sure that He smiled at your heart on Sunday!

You are storing up memories that will be with you all of your life. And last Sunday will be one of those sweet memories--how you did a difficult thing and how you brought such joy to others in the doing of it.

I'm proud to be your aunt, Sweetie!

Love,
Aunt Kathy

I think it's very cool that you were given the strength to go to church without your teeth, but if next Sunday comes and you're not feeling as strong and you decide to stay home, remember that God looks on WHO you are, not what you DO to please Him. Just a thought...you're awesome....

Hi Shae. So fun to see you at church. I didn't realize that missing a few teeth would draw so many comments in your blog. I am so glad you came. Phil's message was so outstanding, and being with God's people is a great way to spend a Sunday!

As the British say, you can "keep a stiff upper lip" until you get those teeth back. Honestly the glow in your eyes and your love of Christ glowing in you... I'd never notice teeth present or absent.

I hope to see you again this Sunday. You and your family add so much to my Sunday mornings!

ttfn!

Dear Shea: It's been quite a while since I've written. It's after 3:00 in the morning and I can't sleep. The Lord brought you once again to my mind. It's such a blessing to be able to share in your little journey. It is such a wonder that the Lord allows us to pray for one another. I am praying for you. Blessings from Kansas. Debbie Miller

Dear Shea,

It has been way too long since we wrote to you, but please believe that we haven't stopped praying for you for one day! We loved getting the note from you, and still have it.

WOW! So much has happened in your life over the past months. Isn't it wonderful to know that our God doesn't change and He DOES ALWAYS remain faithful.

We will continue to pray for you, your mom and dad, Luke and Jess. Be reminded that God knows every detail of your life -- and He knows the outcome of every day in your future. He has great big hands, and He is holding you.

Always in our prayers.

With love,

Shea and family,
Just want to let you all know that we are still talking to our great God about you each day.......praising Him for what He has done and for what He has planned. Asking Him to be your shield and the lifter of your head. Thanking Him for how he has blessed us through you.
May you all experience, each day, the joy of the Lord and the peace that passes understanding.
