A Valentine for Heaven

It's been a week since we last posted on the blog, and that's a good sign. Three months ago there was something to report every day, but now things have slowed down, and the visible healing isn't noticed daily either.

The day after Shea's birthday, Mike's headstone was finally placed on his grave. Bill (Mike's dad) and Shea went together to see it for the first time. As she walked out the door, she took a bouquet of flowers someone had sent for her birthday and scooped up a handful of hearts that were still scattered on her birthday table from the night before. The reality of seeing Michael Evans Jones on a tombstone was more than she could take. Shea always tries to be strong for everyone, but this was most difficult. She scattered the flowers and hearts across the headstone and left a picture of the two of them as well.

Physical Therapy started up again last week. Shea's mobililty in her knee is better, but there is still more therapy to be had. We see Dr. McKay, the plastic surgeon along with the dental surgeon this Thursday, so it wil be good to know exactly what will need to be done since they will have the results of the CT scan.

The good news? There is even more movement around Shea's left eye!!! She can squeeze it shut, not as tightly as her right eye, but it's coming along. Shea can raise her eyebrow too! -- not as fully as the right eye, but there is definite improvement. Thank you for your continued prayers and words of encouragement that carry her through the quiet days.

Steve and I were in Shea's room tonight, and we noticed a beautiful handmade card that said, "Happy Valentine's, Mike." "You can read it if you want," she said, and so we did. She talked about all the fun times they had together, what he must be doing in heaven and what they had planned for Valentine's Day tomorrow. It will be a lonely one instead, but Shea isn't one for wanting sympathy -- we're proud of the fact that she is facing all the sadness and pain, and we'll do our best to make her day the best we can.

Much love,

The Hickoks

"For now we are looking in a mirror that gives only a dim (blurred) reflection of reality as in a riddle or enigma, but then when perfection comes we shall see in reality and face to face! Now I know in part (imperfectly), but then I shall know and understand fully and clearly, even in the same manner as I have been fully and clearly known and understood by God. And so faith, hope, love abide [faith - conviction and belief respecting man's relation to God and divine things; hope - joyful and confident expectation of eternal salvation; love - true affection for God and man, growing out of God's love for and in us], these three; but the greatest of these is love." [Amp.] Happy Valentine's Day, Hickok Family.

Dear Shea,

I am praying for you this verse:

2 Thes. 3:5-
May the Lord bring you into an even DEEPER understanding of the LOVE of GOD and the endurance that comes from Christ.

In these times of quietnes, may you know how deep and how wide the love of Christ is for you!!! May you know more and more the great joy Mike now has and how he knows what really matters now!!! How he must be wanting you to endure and KNOW even more, the King of Kings!!! A deeper understanding that He is right there with you, step by step.
My prayer for you this Valentine's Day, is that you would so feel the love of God all around you. May you just let the Potter keep healing you and guiding you.
Praying for a really special day for each of you,

Denise N

The song says, "He giveth more grace as the burdens grow greater." That is the only way we are carried through many times of grief, trouble, pain and sadness. The Lord just carries us. It's hard to realize it and just let go and let Him carry us. We always want to try to carry it ourselves. We are praying for grace and comfort and peace for you, Shea, and for all the sweet Hickok family.

Love, Linda Guthrie

I hope this is a happy day for you! May the God of all comfort give you his peace that we cannot comprehend- may he also send you sweet angels of joy and laughter!

Psalm 27:13-14-- I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.

I pray that our Father will pour out his mighty and precious blessings on each of you. Keep hanging in there Shea; you are doing great!
Love and prayers, Marian Madden

Dear Shea,

This will be a hard day. No doubt. It's Valentine's day, and your Valentine cannot be with you.

Today you will deeply miss Mike. Your thoughts will be on him and what you two were to each other and the sweet times you had together.

Take great comfort in the knowledge that it was not his choice to be away from you today. You never broke his heart, and he never broke yours. Your affection for each other is frozen in time, and frozen in a good and happy place. No regrets. No painful words or hurtful breakups to deal with. Just ... separation.

Mike can see you now, with eyes that really see. Your beauty has never been as clear to him as it is now, on thie Valentine's Day.

And you will see your friend again one day. How joyous that day will be for you!

But today ... today it's just plain hard to be left behind.

The shortest verse in the bible is found in the story of Jesus' visit to his friend, Lazarus, whom He loved. And He missed him by a couple of days. By the time Christ got to where His friend was, Lazarus was already gone and buried. Christ missed the funeral and His chance to say "Goodbye." When Lazarus' sisters break the news to Jesus that His friend is already gone, the bible says, "Jesus wept."

There have been many theological discussions on exactly WHY He wept, but He was a Man of Sorrows, acquainted with grief. I believe He was grieving deeply over the loss of His friend.

It is understandable to grieve today, sweet Shea. It's OK to remember Mike and to miss him. And it's OK to cry.

Tomorrow will be easier. And the day after that. You will not grieve like this forever.

But for today, take refuge in the love and affection of your family.

And miss Mike.

Praying for peace and comfort for you on this Valentines Day,

Carolyn

Shea, hun...

I think you must have what amounts to a big ache in your chest, today, and I'm praying that the love of those who remain with you will be like medicine to that ever-so-painful place. I completely believe that we are remembered and loved by our people who have left before us, and I'll ask God to give you great comfort in that thought. His heart is touched and moved by your great grief, as is mine, my dear. I love you ever so much....

Hey Shea,

It was so great to see your mom's glowing face this morning at bible study. She told us first hand your story, we've heard, but with her voice. We laughed, we cried, we drug out the box of tissues! My two-year-old Nicholas gave "Miss Shea's Momma" a kiss and when we got in the car he said, "Miss Shea kisses?" I told him he could give you kisses soon enough!

We continue to pray for you...

All our love,
Jenell, Stephen, and Nicholas Roberson

Dear Shea,
Just know that we are still continuing to lift you and your special family up in prayer every day. You all mean so much to all of us. You can't know how many times Rachel and Stephen put on your CD and worship along with you.
Every time I hear their worshiping with your CD I know that they are praying for you. You didn't know that when you made it, did you? It is so annointed and very special.
Please know that the worship at the bridge has been very sweet the last 4 weeks. I can sense the very deep work God did in your Dad as he walked through all he has had to walk through for the last few months. There is an annointing and a depth of spriit that is really just amazing. He may not be able to sense this but please know it is very noticeable and I am not the only one that has said so. You can just tell that he has been in God's presence just like the Isrealites could tell that Moses had been. It is just wonderful. We are praying for all of you. God Bless, Nancy Norwood
