I was just sitting here thinking back to all the fun times that I have had at your house with you and Shea. Like when we got Shea her Shea street sign?? Or remember the time that Shea and I were sitting outside drinking coffee and you came out to talk...somehow, one of those see-through-lizzards got on the seat of my pants, and I started freaking out! I wanted you to take it off sooooo bad but you didn't want to-cuz it was on the seat of my pants. None of us can fully understand what you have experienced in the last week and a half. It must be difficult for you to understand it all as well. We continue to be amazed when we think of how God used you to help Shea--such a mature response for a young man.
This won't be like any other birthday you've had, but it will always be the one you remember best. May God give you wonderful memories of this special day. Our prayer is that very soon now Shea will be fully awake and able to thank you herself for being there for her. Happy Birthday!

Shea and I were just talking 2 sundays ago about how you can get along with anyone. She was telling me that you went out to mexican food and you were ordering in spanish..busting out words like "frijoles" and "queso" and the workers thought you were the best. Luke you have such a great balance of depth and a sense of humor. I just know that God is going to use you in ways you never could have imagined. I'll be praying especially for you today, that your injuries will heal and your heart will be full.
You're really a miracle, you know that? And 16 is a landmark birthday for anyone, but especially for you. You will never have a birthday like this one again.
Today will be bittersweet, but do yourself a favor and write yourself a note to open on your 21st birthday. Write down who you are and how today feels, and what you hope to be and see 5 years from now.
You've accomplished so much in the first 16 years: you learned to walk, talk, dress and feed yourself, run and sing ... to write and draw. Sixteen years ago you could do nothing. Today, there is almost nothing you can't do (...except drive ... but that's coming). You are here and whole for a reason ... God has something for you to do.
So imagine ... dream ... and write it down. There will be many more birthdays to come, but none like this one.

I would love to be back down there helping you celebrate tonight. As Uncle Michael said, I think Shea would want you to mark the occasion, have some fun and soak up all the admiration and love that all of us have for you.
I always tell your Dad that it's ridiculous how talented he is and I feel the same about you. I love hearing the stories about you sleeping with your guitar. It's like a natuaral appendage to you now isn't it? It is pretty cool how all your passion and hard work have come together to allow you as a 16-year-old to become such a strong talent. More importantly, none of that has gone to your head. That's what's most impressive. You're fun to be around, not full of yourself and able to see the talent and potential in others.
You're probably inclined to play down this day. I will try and call you to make it a bit more personal. Suffice to say, the fellas and I want to pass along our VERY best birthday wishes to the Luke-man.
All our days in this life are filled with such a wild variety of experiences that God wants to use to shape us...experiences that serve to make the "living experience" abundant, right? You're probably feeling like you've had enough of this whole experience for a while...time for something different.
But Lukus...you are the man!
