A little set-back

Good Morning, Everyone. We had trouble with the BLOG last night. Apparently the sites were down and I was unable to finish the report. Since that time, Steve has called me this morning with more news on Shea.

** Shea has contracted pneumonia but this is not a big surprise to the doctors. They cultured her last week thinking this may happen. She has been placed back on the ventilator they removed from her yesterday to further open her lungs. She has been given a differnt antibiotic. This will set her back 3-4 days, Steve said, but he believes that this will give Shea more time to heal.

** Shea is receiving a blood transfusion this morning. We knew yesterday that her hemoglobin was still low and that they planned to transfuse.

** Steve said her arms, legs and face looked great. The swelling has come down even further.

** The Physical Therapist, Cindy Hesler, arrived yesterday afternoon to exercise Shea's fingers, hands, arms and legs. She will work daily with Shea to get her moving and ready to go to Shepherd's Hospital "and so she can go home to you soon," she said to Susan.

I was unable to tell you yesterday that I turned on the CD player so Shea could listen to music while her mother held her. The song, Blessed Be Your Name, played. Susan started to softly sing and Shea just relaxed in her arms.

When I arrived this morning Susan said she could not sleep last night. That same song ran through her head over and over again,. If she drifted off to sleep, she would awaken again and again to the words of this song--

Blessed be your name.
On the road marked with suffering
Though there's pain in the offering
Blessed be your name.

Every blessing you pour out
I'll turn back to praise.
When the darkness closes in , Lord,
Still I will say,

Blessed be the name of the Lord;
Blessed be your name.
Blessed be the name of the Lord;
Blessed be your glorious name

You give and take away;
You give and take away.
But my heart can choose to say;
Blessed be your name

Blessed be the name of the Lord;
Blessed be your name.
Blessed be the name of the Lord;
Blessed be your glorious name.

With this song ringing in our ears, we again lift Shea up in prayer today. Susan so often says, "I hate to keep asking people to pray--but, we can't stop!"

Thank you for your many encouraging posts. Late at night, while Susan and Steve are unwinding from their longs days here, they read your posts and are touched and uplifted by your comforting words.

Thank you all so very much--
Jeanne Burch

Yes Susan and Steve, keep asking for prayer! When we have such a privelege as entering into the throne room of the Most High to make our requests known, it is an honor and joy, not a drudgery.

You don't know me but I have to tell you that this has certainly touched my life. My heart aches for your family as I can't even imagine what you must be going through seeing your child suffer like this. I do know as you certainly do that our God has a purpose for that precious girls life and He is working His plan even now. You will probably never know this side of Heaven how many lifes have been touched by this tragedy as well as the strength we are witnessing in you and the POWER or our Lord Jesus Christ. His word promises in Romans 8:28 that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them. You are obviously a family who loves God and rest assured He keeps His promises and He knows how to take care of His own. I am praying for you all and especially for Shea. Thank you for the updates. It blesses my heart every day.

Well well, welcome back Shea, sunshine!!! It was so good to hear that you have been communicating and being able to love on your parents. I have been praying and thinking about you everyday. Inever thought of how perfect that song was, Blessed be the name of our Jesus. He does take away but He gave you back to all of us, Shea. And I can't tell you how over-joyed I am. I have had a rough few days but it is always a highlight to log on and hear how you are doing. I passed your old house yesterday, the one by Desert Sky and just missed you sooooo much. But God has you in such a place to "work" for Him, even from a hospital bed!!! I can't even begin to imagine all the lives you have touched through this accident... God is truely working. Well, i'm probably headed to Flagstaff today, it may not be as cold as in Macon, but it has snow and that works for me. Work has been very busy, lots of customers and lots of fun. I love the holidays, but then who doesn't???
I hope to be coming back East in a few months to see family and if its not an intrusion, id love to stop by and see how you are doing. Make sure you are behaving yourself!! I love ya honey. It has been such a blessing to pray for you, the oddest things will draw us closer to Christ isn't that the truth??? Well, keep talking and using that beautiful smile everyone knows and loves. I'll check back tomorrow......

Dear Hickok Family,
You don't know who I am, but I moved from California to Chattanooga several years ago and am a friend of Becky Gorslines and go to church with her. Your family has truly touched our hearts and we have been praying every day. The blog we read about Shea saying "mama mama" just brought me to tears. We truly feel for you all. I felt a connection right away with you all because my family all are very musical and song writers. My Dad was an accomplished guitarist, and left the heritage to my two brothers, my sister writes and sings, and is currently working on a CD (She has a web-site, Flo Paris) anyway during a difficult time when my Dad and other sister had cancer my Mom wrote this song and thought it might be a comfort to you:
Trial of Faith
I'm facing a trial, a trial of faith
I'm learning to trust God, I'm learning to wait. His purpose my journey-yet I'm not the first pioneer. I'm learning to let God steer.

When loved one's lives are hanging by a thread, Do I trust in His power or my will instead? Though by His stripes we are healed, His timing and will must heed, In learning to let God lead.

So come to His throne of grace boldly- That we may receive His tender mercies.-He gives grace to help in these times, these times of need, For this gift to us He did bleed,- For the power of His life - to be our need.

When night is too dark-and day is too bright,
Children's laughter-birds singing-word of comfort too loud,When despairing of life itself.-And His grace becomes our only sweet song, In our heart may your peace and love abound. In our heart may your peace and love abound-May your peace and love abound.
I hope this song is an encouragement to you. Shea is a beautiful girl inside and out, with a beautiful voice, and I believe He is going to do great things with her.

Susan-
Don't hate to keep asking for prayer. Its the only thing most people can do for the situation now and i know personally that it makes me not feel so helpless in it all. Most people are more the willing to pray for Shea's healing and your family. I am.

Love you all,
Beth Motley

"There's pain in the offering, Blessed be Your name." "My heart will choose to say: 'Lord, Blessed be your name!'" -- Two precious lines of truth from a praise song that was so dear to my heart already. And many times in the past weeks I have thought about you all as I think about those words. Job knew what he was talking about (and WHO he was talking about)! Susan and Steve, it is really a great privilege to be able to pray for your family. Many times I wish I could do more -- could be physically helpful to your family, and you know I would, -- but I am certain there is no greater work to be done on behalf of your family right now than the "work" of praying and blessing the name of God.

I love you all, will pray for quick healing from the pneumonia and more encouraging signs of Shea's healing.

Dear Shea, your picture on our refrigerator was put there to remind us to pray, but the Holy Spirit does an even better job! Keep getting better. Your Father is doing a marvelous work in your life.

Dear Steve, Susan, and Shea,
We have been following your voyage since the beginning. Shea I am sure that you have been chuckling inside to all of the comments from your buds. Vangie was telling me just a while ago about your mom putting on lipstick just so that she could kiss the girls in Sunday School. Vangie was telling me about how each week she waited for that kiss. Sunday I was thinking and praying about how much your mom must want to just hug you and give you lot's of "red kisses" now too. It was so cool to hear that your mom was able to be in bed with you! The "red kisses" will just have to wait a tiny bit longer. We are praying hard for you! Love Gina and Jeff Orr

Steve & Susan,

We are gladly standing in prayer with you--throughout Shea's recovery. What a privilege to be amazed (along with the doctors and medical personnel) at her progress.

There is a wide community of believers praying with you, but no doubt this is a unique opportunity for the body at The Bridge to become a people of prayer. Susan, a number of us from the Wed. a.m. Bible study have committed to fast and pray once a week while Shea is in the hospital/rehab.

I don't know if you've seen my e-mail yet with Jessie's message for Shea. (Even our little 1st grader is learning about prayer.) We had a number of families from The Bridge over after Thanksgiving. While we were gathered, we spent some time in prayer for Shea. Jessie was silently reading from her Bible while we prayed, and she found these verses then read them to the whole group--on behalf of Shea.

"I will praise you, Lord, for you have saved me from my enemies. You refuse to let them triumph over me. O Lord my God, I pleaded with you, and you gave me my health again. You brought me back from the brink of the grave, from death itself, and here I am alive!" Ps. 30:1-3 (The Children's Living Bible)

Amen!!!
Lisa

...keep asking us to pray? Just try to stop us from praying! We love your family so much, and it is a pleasure to be praying for Shea and the rest of the family.

One of the many blessings you've brought to our family is praying more often. A lesson we can't forget when Shea is recovered. God is faithful, and I am confident that he will bless Shea beyond what any of her prayer team can imagine. We'll keep praying, and He will keep overwhelming is with His goodness!

Dear Hickok Family,

Shea is such a wonderful young woman. I remember when McKenzie was a few months old and she cried whenever anybody but me held her. One sunday night while I was trying to eat some dinner with you guys in the gym, Shea took McKenzie and to my surprise she stayed calm and smiled at Shea! She stayed with Shea for about half an hour! I think that even in her little heart McKenzie knew that she would be safe in Shea's arms and knew that Shea had a loving spirit.
Right now God has you in His arms. Just look up at Him and smile because His blessing are great and you are safe with our Father! Rest in His comforting love!

Our prayers are with you,

The Brown family
Chris, Monica, McKenzie, and Kaitlyn
