For a Reason

Last night Shea slept well until 4 am. She awakened with the realization that Mike is no longer here. Her Aunt Joy was there with her, and they shared many tears. Shea said, "My face is hurting, but my heart is hurting more."

This morning Shea and Mom had a special time together. They prayed and she lay quietly as the blog was read to her. Silent tears flowed as the Scriptures and your heartfelt prayers poured over her heavy heart. We paused a moment and she asked,
Why am I alive?
There's a special purpose.
What is it?
I don't know, but I can't wait to see.
Shea contemplated these words then later said, "I'm right where God wants me."

Dr. Carey came later to check on Shea's facial progress, and she shared her concern about her left eye. It is blurry and she sees a big black spot. Dr. Carey said it could improve, stay the same or get worse. Shea told the doctor, "God has healed the rest of my body, He can heal my eye if He wants to."

Steve and Luke prayed with Shea and asked God for yet another miracle. As she was drifting off to sleep she said, "Dad, I know Jesus wants me in this bed even though it hurts me . . . I'm ok. . . It's for a reason."

Psalm 27:13-14

I would have despaired unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.
Wait for the LORD; Be strong, and let your heart take courage.

Thank you for your continued prayers. Shea has asked that we specifically pray for her left eyesight and facial nerves to be restored and the soon removal of her trach.

God bless you all.

Steve,

You said that first day in the hospital that if Shea made it through all of this, you hoped she'd grow to be like me. But, wow, I pray that if something like this ever happened to me, I could be like her. You've got one amazing girl.

I think I'll see you all tomorrow! =) Can't wait

Hi sweetie! We haven't known each other that long but I just wanted to tell you how thankful that I am to have met you. You are such a strong and incredible person, and I truly look up to you. Keep up that amazing strength girlie! I can't wait to see that smiling face again! From all the North Gwinnett alums and current KSU students - WE LOVE YOU SHEA!

Thank you so very much to everyone who updates the blog. I check it multiple times a day! May God bless all of you.

Shea - thank you so much for your courage and your faith. I read about you and pray for you every day. I can't begin to tell you how your journey has impacted our family. This time of year the world would have us focus on material things. None of which really mean a thing. The little challenges in daily life I used to stress about no longer upset me. God has a plan for us all. We have our health. Right now we can hug and kiss each other good-night at the end of the day. And, above all else, we rest knowing that our Father in Heaven loves and cares for us. I hope to meet you one day when you come to visit Scottsdale Bible. As you already know, there is much love for you here.

Lauren Shea,
I can't begin to imagine how much your heart is hurting. But you're right, God has you in that bed for a reason and we all are excited to see His great plan for you. It's OK to hurt! Lean on Him for that extra comfort you need right now.
Your "story" has touch so many people in so many places. We are continually praying for you. For comfort, for healing(of your body and heart), for rest and also for the unsaved that read your blog daily and for the unsaved doctors who shake their heads at the speed at which you're recovering. We pray for your family who is hurting and healing right along side of you.
My children pray for you and share your updates w/ their unchurched friends. Our 5 year old asks us everyday if we "checked Lauren Shea's update". Keep resting sweetie. I can't wait for the next update!

Shea,
I don't know if you remember or not, but at Any Given Moment's show in Conyers about a month and a half ago (the last show I took photos at), you and I had a loooong conversation. We talked about relationships, our life experiences, and just really got to know each other better. You even gave me advice on what to do about Alexxx :). Haha. But you also told me that day that (because of the things I have experienced these past few years) you admired me for being so strong. I told you that day that if it weren't for my faith in God, I wouldn't have been able to make it. Well, I want to tell you now that this particular experience is going to make you so, so strong, and God will hold your hand and guide you every step of the way, because you ARE exactly where he wants you to be! Everything does happen for a reason, that's another thing we talked about that day. I'm so glad I got to spend that whole day with you, and I look forward to being able to spend many more days just like it. I want you to know that I will be here for you, whenever you need me, and I am praying for you always! You're beautiful, and blessed, and wonderful. I have photos for you from that day in Conyers, as soon as I get to see you (which hopefully won't be long from now).
I love you, Shea!
Love,
Lauren Kelly

Sweet Shea,

How comforting your faith must be to your parents. Whatever your future holds, never forget: God is already there.

I am praying for your eyesight. May God restore it to have the clarity your heart has.

It is so hard to be left behind! But you know, Mike was so wonderful, God could not wait to have him with Him. But I also believe God allows those who have gone before us to visit us ... on a different level, yes, but with us, none the less. We talk with our transformed loved ones in our dreams and in our waking dreams. The past month has been a waking dream for you. Shea, I believe Mike has been in your room, watching over you, encouraging in a way we cannot know, and interceding for you, with an even more pure love and compassion than he ever had before. He is perfect now, by the grace of God. And by the grace of God, he will be a part of you always.

I'm so sorry for your loss. It is hard to be left behind.

Heartfelt prayers for your continued recovery and faith in God,

Carolyn M

Shea,
Though we have never met before, I have heard many great things about you. I am so joyful to hear of your undying faith in Jesus Christ. Our Creator has a big plan for your life and I am so glad that your arms are so open for His love. I pray for the amazing courage you will need to take each day as it comes. Step by step, God will carry you through this. You have an amazing family who loves you so dearly. That is very evident from all they've said so far. May God fill your heart, as well as everyone near and dear to you, and consume everything you are. His power is so amazing. You are cared about by hundreds of people you didn't even know existed. I continue to pray for you and your family each day as I read about your amazing progress. Continue to be open to God's will.

Beautiful Shea Stahrr:

You are such an amazing girl. All you have been through and you are full of amazing faith. I know you are already a stronger person for all that you have been through, and this is only the beginning of God's beautiful plan for you and the rest of your life. I am so thankful for all of your progress, your strength (eventhough you don't think so), your courage, and your extreme faith. I love you beautiful. I will call you soon.

I just got home, I spent about a week with my sister in California before we both came home for Christmas break. I prayed for you and your family off and on the whole way home. You are an inspiration to all, whether you know it or not. I love you precious girl. I am here for you when you need me, and always!

Shea Starrrrr!!!

Yo, gangsta! It is so much more fun to write a blog post that you can read or hear for yourself!! Praise God! Hey, there are a whole bunch of Czechs praying for you. We pray every morning and we have been praying for you!!! Actually, my Czech still isn't very good, so I don't know if the Czechs are praying for you, because they pray in a funny language...sometimes I day dream when they are praying...I know that isn't good, but it's really hard to concentrate when all you hear is "yuck, yuck, bla, bla, smuch, dgh"...all that to say that I am for sure praying for you and I am pretty sure my Czech friends are also...how sweet is that!!! Czechs totally praying for you!

BTW, Romans 5:8! Yeah, I always think about you when I read that verse. I posted something about it before, you can read it when you eye heals!

You are an awesome encouragement...I love reading how you have responded to this challenge. I know it probably isn't easy and you don't always want to respond in such a "godly" fashion, but God is working in you and I can't wait to see why God has spared you!!!

Also, I love playing your songs for people, because they are always amazed at what a beautiful voice you have!

Love ya,

nate

Hi Sweet Shea,

It was difficult to leave you on Saturday, but helps to hear the report each day to know what is happening.

I am so sorry that you have lost Mike who was so important to you. Everything I've heard about him is wonderful--how he cared for people, the people no one else cared for; the high standards he had for his life and how he encouraged the same for others; and his willingness to stand alone when he knew he was doing the right thing.

My heart aches for Mike's family and friends. Hearing about him has encouraged me to be more like him. I'm sure he's had the same influence on you. You can't bring him back, but you can remember him with love and appreciation, thankful for the impact he has had on you.

Lord, please give an extra measure of comfort to Shea and to Mike's family and friends today. Soothe the raw hurt and lift the heaviness, we pray. Thank You for his life. Help us to be more like him in the ways he was just like You.

We're praying for you, Sweetie.

Much love,
Aunt Kathy

My She,Shea,
You are awesome, and just like you said God is awesome. You are so strong. I thank Jesus for your faith, courage, and love for life. If God will write another Book, I know there will be a chapter about you. The Book will be called 'The Heros of faith'. You are my hero. Praying for you. God will take care of healing, He will...I know it, because it is His nature. He has done so many miracles and I believe that there are many more to come, just wait and watch His move. Ryan and Jenny are in California, I am going to catch up with them this wednesday. I know that both of them are just glued to the blog... we all glued together with a prayed for you, your family. You take care of you mommy and daddy too. They need you just as much as you need them. This Christams I am thankful to God for a family and you. Be strong, my Shea. I love you dearly and I pray for you with all my whole heart.

Good morning precious Shea. I am Brittany Shea's mother. I read about you everyday. I cry along with you and your parents as well as rejoice along with you all. You are so correct in saying that God has a great plan for you. You have minstered to so many people even while you were sleeping. God is getting glory from this sad time in your life. I believe it has drawn many closer to Him. I am so sorry that you are temporarily seperated from someone you love. I pray for God to comfort you during this time of seperation. I know you do rejoice in the fact that one day you will see him again. I pray for his parents to be comforted too. I am amazed by your spiritual maturity in Christ to understand that God has you right where He wants to use you for His glory and honor. I am praying for your eye to heal, the pain to subside and your complete healing. Continue to rest as He restores you. Love in Jesus, Debbie Harmon

Sweet Shea,
You are such an example for all of us, I don't know if I could ever be as strong as you've been through this. I know your heart hurts dear girl, but I can see that the Lord is walking you through it all and using you to touch so many people. I know that I will never be the same. I've seen God's hand every single day in the last month, reading about you. I can't wait to see what God has in store for you. You really do amaze me. Thank you Shea, for renewing my faith in the God that we so love. We go about our day and sometimes forget that He still performs miracles, that when God wants something, that He will use the Holy Spirit to knock us over! I LOVE THAT! I have never in my life been used like this, and I just praise God for your continued recovery. Love you!

its a web of prayer.
my new ringtone is a song that encourages me every time someone calls me...
"Indescribable, uncontainable,
You placed the stars in the sky and You know them by name.
You are amazing God
All powerful, untameable,
Awestruck we fall to our knees as we humbly proclaim
You are amazing God"

You are so blessed to have soooo many people who love you and care about you. I am so sorry for all of the physical and emotional pain that you are feeling. Hello sweet child,
It's Mrs. Gard( Tiffany's Mom)
I want to tell you how special you are to see God in all things.
Take heart child I have always walked (or sometimes dragged, God can be very persuasive at times) the harder road. Some people get the things they pray for right away, and sometimes God allows things to happen in His time for others. That's because He knows the latter will be more apt to give Him the glory.(that's strictly my opion) I think it takes greater faith to believe God through the storm!
I have adopted a saying that says "I'm either going through it or to it!Either way God sees me to a blessing."
Keep trusting God for everything!
He's the best! Merry Christmas Shea!
Forever His,
Dana Gard

I can't wait to see all you guys again, with Shea, and give all you a hug. I pray daily for her, and you guys. You guys are loved very much. Your faith is so strong in the Lord, its so great!

Dear Shea, I know that God will continue to bless you and hold you in the palm of his hand whatever happens with your eye. It sure is obvious by now that nothing is impossible for God so I'm praying, and crying a bit too, about that left side of your face and your sight. I've got a couple dozen people praying for your right now too.

It's funny that you say you know God will use you for something in the future but God has been using you for the last four weeks! What a powerful God we have that he can use us and change the world through us when we're not even fully awake!! If he can do that through you while you are asleep imagine what he's got planned for you when you can get up. I can tell you that your statements of faith are strengthening those of us with less faith even today.

Hold on sweet girl. Have you ever heard the story of the family that had a down's syndrome baby? They wrote about it in terms of a trip (I'm working for a blurry memory here.) Anyway, when their little baby was born and he wasn't what they expected they said it was as though they'd thought all along they were going to France and they found out they were going to Italy instead. I think you've been planning and dreaming these 18 years of a trip to France but God's got you booked on a WORLD CRUISE baby.

Keep that tight hold on God's hand.
Love,
Aunt Liz

I can hardly imagine the pain of losing someone so close. I'm sure that he is now constantly watching your progress and thanking God for His mighty work :-)
What a blessing your faith is. God has given you a beautiful heart and I am deeply touched by your committment to Him.

Steve and Susan,
I am so thankful that you can talk to your daughter again. We all have prayed continually for this. God's mercies are new every day. I was especially blessed by the Bible verse that was included in this blog because just before I got on my computer, I read that same verse during my devotional time! I just love to see God's hand on everything. Keep up the faith, wer're all praying for you.

Hey Shea,

We are all singing praises to our Lord for the work He is doing through you. It's like you are reborn Again and we all look forward to seeing all of the ways God will use your "rebirth" for His glory.
I came across this amazing poem that a good friend of mine sent me during a time her health was failing. She suffers from Kron's and has two small kids. She inspires me as you do, dear Shea.
This poem is on the moon, carried there on the Apollo XV voyage.

I AM THERE
Do you need me? I am there.
You cannot see Me, yet I am the light you see by.
You cannot feel Me, yet I am the power at work in your hands.
I am at work, though you do not understand my ways.
I am at work, though you do not recognize my works.
I am not strange visions. I am not mysteries.
Only in absolute stillness, beyond self, can you know Me as I am, and then but as a feeling and a faith.
Yet I am there. Yet I hear. Yet I answer.
When you need Me, I am there.
Even if you deny Me, I am there.
Even when you feel most alone, I am there.
Even in your fears, I am there.
Even in your pain, I am there.
I am there when you pray and when you do not pray.
I am in you a nd you are in Me.
Only in your mind can you feel separate from Me, for only in your mind are the mists of "yours" and "mine".
Yet only with your mind can you know me and experience me.
Empty your heart of empty fears.
When you get yourself out of the way I am there.
You can of yourself do nothing, but I can do all.
And I am in all.
Though you may not see good, good is there, for I am there.
I am there because I am have to be, because I AM.
Only in me does the world have meaning; only out of me does the world take from; only because of me does the world go forward.
I am the law on which the movement of the stars and growth of living cells are founded.
I am the love that is the law's fulfilling.
I am assurance.
I am peace.
I am oneness.
I am the law you can live by.
I am the love you can cling to.
I am your assurance.
I am your peace.
I am one with you.
I AM.
Though you fail to find me, I do not fail you.
Though your faith in me is unsure, my faith in you never waivers, because I know you, because I love you.
Beloved, I am there.

Hi, Shea!

What an honor it was to sit with you and talk with you Saturday. Like I said, you are miracle and you said that Jesus was the miracle. Well just remember, Jesus is working miracles through you and touching people all around the world through you who might not have believed that miracles do happen.

You are so incredibly strong and it gives me and everyone around me strength when we talk about you and your recovery.

I can't wait to sit with you and share all the stories. Quinn has made you the pink and white bracelets already! The kids can't wait to have you wear them!

Hi Shea
I just wanted you to know how very sorry I am that you not only have to hurt in your body but in your heart too. Not one tear goes unnoticed by your Lord and He will restore your heart as well as your face. You have changed and strengthened many lives in the past month and He isn't done with you yet. 2Corinthians 1:3-5
"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives so also through Christ our comfort overflows"
We will all continue to pray for full restoration in body ,heart and mind. Thankyou Jesus that we serve and love a God who is all powerful and able to accomplish what concerns us today. Love you Shea

Aloha from Hawaii,
The Lazzara's and Jones' family rejoices that we have our Shea back. Our extended family started calling us as we waited for flights for our much needed vacation to Maui. We couldn't wait to get on a computer this morning to hear the news ourselves. We cried yesterday when Bill got to talk to Shea himself. We were in the midst of God's magnificant beauty of the island as we worked on the beginning of our Christmas tans, when we heard the news that Shea was awake and talking to Bill. We only wish that we could be there to be with the Hickok family and celebrate this amazing moment with them. As we all said through the tears yesterday, "We have our Shea back".
Thank you for including us in your blog yesterday. We have felt like we have gone through all this pain with your family, and this has produced an incredible bond even if we can't be there right now. Our family all over the US is keeping us posted, and we can't wait to be back and look Shea in the eyes and tell her that we love her.
Aloha for now,
Anna, Bill, Kyle, Emily, Megan, and Katie

Shea-

You don't know me, and I am sure there are a lot of people praying for you that you don't know, but we have a little conncetion. We are recording with Ken Mary right now, and while I was not in a car accident, I was given just four months to live a couple years ago.

It was a very scary time, and doctors could not figure out my problems, and so I was left to rely completly on the Lord. As you can see, I didn't die. Though I wished I would of several times throughout my ordeal, God gave me a promise that I would recover and serve Him.

Being a singer I can't imagine what you must be thinking right now, but know this; Jesus gave you a voice (and it is truly a beautiful one) to sing his songs, and now he has given you a testimony, that is second to none, to go along with it.

You are impacting your doctors, nurses, family, and even people you don't know. You are being SO effective for the Kingdom!

Be at peace.

Hi Shea,

This is Shayda Wall, I am 6 years old and I watch you on stage at Church.

When my mom told me about your accident I started to cry but I knew Jesus could heal you, so I have prayed for you every night before I go to sleep. (I listen to your music at night in bed, I love your music!)

Today, my parents told me that you woke up, and it was like you were in a deep sleep all this time.

I knew my Jesus heard our prayers.

I can't wait to hear you sing soon. I thought it was so cool your name was Shea because everyone calls me Shay too.

Love you,

Shay Wall

PS. You baby-sit my best friend and neighbor Abby Polhill and I would love you to baby-sit me too.

Precious Shea,
Barry and I were at his Christmas Party Saturady night and a co-worker of his asked about you. As I began to tell of the recent progress another person at the table asked if we were discussing "that girl" that was in the horrible accident near Macon. I quickly realized that many people at Barry's work and their congregations have all been praying for you! YES, YOU!

What an awesome GOD we serve!

About 10-12 days after your accident I gained a wonderful peace and confidence that you were going to survive. It's like nothing I've ever felt before. All I can say is God must have great things he wishes you to complete for him.

Thank you Father for the "helper", your spirit, that you gave us.

I'm sorry for your pain both physical and emotional. Mike will be greatly missed, but I beleive he lived every moment to it's fullest. Remember some day you will be with him again.

Susan, Steve, Luke, Jessie we look forward to having the entire family back in Suwanee. Can you beleive we live in Georgia! Sometimes it still feels strange.

Your Arizona Friends,
Teresa/Barry and Cole too!

Dearest Hickok Family,
I am sharing tears of joy, hope and sadness after reading the latest news. My heart pours out to dear sweet Shea as she has come to realize all that has happened in the last four weeks. She is such an amazing woman with so much faith but is still human with feelings of joy and sorrow. She was saved by the Lord for a reason and I think it will be huge when we realize the plan that God has for her. I will continue to pray for all of you as you are a blessing to all that know you. I glorify God for bringing you into my life as you are such an example for me as I am so new at my walk with the Lord. Thanks for being such an inspiration to me. Love to all of you, Peggy Pfohl

Shea, welcome back! i praised God and cried as I have read these past few blogs. i have had to coordinate this huge dinner so i haven't had the chance to check on your progress. But now I have tears streaming down my face and I would give anything to be with you and not stuck in hot Arizona. I love you so much and your sweet spirit has done nothing but blossom as you have been away. I may never fully comprehend why God allowed this or how hard it must be for you, but you have people all around who love you. and i know that when I was going through a really difficult time my sophmore year and later in El Salvador, someone expained to me about the purification of gold. How it has to undergo a heating and boiling process with lots of pressure to bring out the impurities and then have those impurites scraped off the surface. God, puts us all under pressure, thats why the Bible talks about walking through the fire, because there are things that god needs to mold, impurities he wants to skim off our edges, mabe there are attitudes we don't even know exist until we are put in these dramatic situations. Like I said, I don't even have an idea of what you have gone through, but i know that amidst the hardship and the questions of why am I here, God is working to make you even more sweet and Godly. i will pray for you as you deal with the loss of Mike, but i'm sure he is up there watching out for you. You actually remind me of David, the man after God's own heart, with a passion for Christ despite facing huge losses. You are a beautiful person Shea, inside AND out. And know that if i could carry any of this burden FOR you, i would do it in heartbeat. But being human, i know I can't do that, but I can pray and that is one of the strongest medicines out there, CLEARLY!!
i can't wait to hear from you. Not only hear from you, i can't wait to sit in a room and speak to you!! What a miracle! Keep getting your rest and keep feeling. I know its not fun to cry, but I also know its one of the best things you can do to heal on the inside.
Again i love you, I will be praying for you. And i'll talk to you tomorrow.
Rache

Dear Shea,

What a privilege it was for me to be with you those few days last week. I miss you! I’m so sorry for the sadness you feel about the loss of your friend Mike, but yet I know God will be with you each step of the way.

There are so many people you’ve never met who are praying for you. Wherever I go on the campus of Dallas Seminary, someone stops me and asks, “How is Shea doing? I’m praying for her.” Our church has an email prayer chain, and your name is on that list.

I love the carols at Christmas. The last verse of “O Little town of Bethlehem” talks about Jesus being with us.

O holy Child of Bethlehem!
Descend to us, we pray;
Cast out our sin, and enter in;
Be born in us today.
We hear the Christmas angels
The great glad tidings tell;
O come to us, abide with us,
Our Lord Emmanuel.

I love you, Shea! May the healing continue.

Aunt Karen

Hey Shea
We are so happy to hear that "Shea is back". We have been praying for this day to come and it finally has. We will continue to pray for you, and the healing that is still to come. We wish we could be there to visit with you, and see first hand how wonderful you are doing. Shea, you have truly been an inspiration to so many people. You will never know the extent of the people that are praying for you. We love you.
Love Drew Julia Kylie and Makayla
P.S We'll send you a family Christmas picture one day. We've been so busy moving out of our house that we haven't even had time to get them taken. Oh well better late than never.

Shea,
Love you lots. Wish I could fix it all for you.
I suppose it is hard mourning for a lost loved one in such a public setting. Home will feel good to you, won't it? Hang in there sweet cousin.
Prayers and tears for you,
Melissa E.

Hi Shea Shea,
It's been hard for me to write to you the last couple of days, because I just continually cry with joy. There just isn't enough words to express the joy we have in God and in you and your amazing "awakening." Precious child you a star that shines every so brightly, and you are effecting others all across the world. God does truly have a plan for you.
Brandon wishes his best, and says that he might be able to save you from drowning in the ocean, but this feet was up to God! And you know Cameron, besides Courtney he took this really hard, I know that he secretly cries every time he reads about Gods miracles and your healing too (he is worse than me), you know how much he loves you Shea, and wants to see you well again. And of course Courtney, she just wants her friend to be well quickly, both emotionally and physically!!
We love you Hun,
Loves and Kisses, Hugs and Squishes, from the whole Butler clan.

Our internet access has been down and I've missed keeping up with how you are doing. It's neat to know that our access to the heavenly Father isn't dependent on a cable connection. He has still heard my prayers even though they weren't as specific. I love keeping up to date and hearing the answers to prayer on your behalf. Hi, Joy! One of my mom and dad's friends who was in their wedding 56 years ago was in church yesterday with us. It made me think that you were in our wedding and how I feel closer to you now just going through this with you. Special prayers for you as you help and I know you're a blessing to Steve and Susan and Shea. Give her a kiss for me. We love you guys!

Shea-
I am completely overjoyed about how well you are doing. I read this blog every single day inorder to check on your progress. You are such an incredible person. And I just wanted to let you know...Mike was also an amazing person that cared about you so much.I know that he is looking down on you and watching over you every second. You are all that he talked about in class. Our KSU community class held a bake sale in honor of him and we raised $300 to give to his family. I keep you and your family in my prayers every single day! God bless!
