Sleep at Last

I am so happy to report that after almost five days without sleep, Shea was finally able to get some rest last night! Thanks so much for your prayers! She slept about 7 hours--from 8-10pm when Susan was with her, from midnight to 3am when I was there, and then from 4-6am while Kathy was with her. Susan suggested that I get in bed with Shea and sleep next to her. It worked so well because I was there to hold her hand or comfort her whenever she needed me. Kathy had the same experience. After seeing her so agitated and frantic, we thanked the Lord for the peace and rest He gave her.

Shea is still having periods of hallucination where she reaches for things that aren't there, waves and motions to people who aren't there, and has that far-away look in her eyes. Then she has times when she is lucid and able to express her feelings and ask and answer questions by writing. The periods of time when she is lucid are getting longer, and for that we are so grateful.

Continue to pray for the restoration of the nerves on the left side of her face. Dr. Carey, the facial surgeon, was in today and told Steve and Susan that he is pleased with how things are progressing. He sees evidence that the nerves are slowing coming back, but only time will tell and we need to keep praying!

Susan and Steve and Kathy and I have been with Shea around the clock. But today when
Susan and Steve stepped out for a quick lunch, Shea was coughing and some phlegm got lodged in her trach and couldn't breathe. The nurse who was sitting with her called for help and they were able to unlodge it so Shea could get air again. It was quite a traumatic experience for Shea and the staff, but she recovered and was quite happy to see her parents when they arrived!

This evening Dr. Clark put in a smaller trach, and the procedure went well. Dr. Dunn, the ear, nose & throat doctor, wanted to extract the blood clot from her right ear drum, but the light on the machine wouldn't work so he had to postpone it until tomorrow.

Steve's sister, Joy, is coming this evening and we are looking forward to having her here to help out. Jeanne, who has been away for a few days, will be back tomorrow.

As I said last night, it's a privilege to be here and to see Shea, "the miracle girl," make such an amazing recovery. She's come such a long way, but there are many challenges ahead. Thanks again for your prayers.

Shea, my dear...

What a relief it must be to sleep a little, finally...I'm really glad for you...You're doing such a great job, and I'm sure you're looking foreward to talking a little bit, soon. Just take a day at a time, sweets, and know that our hearts are there with you...

Love always,

Dear Shea, Steve & Susan, we thank God for each bit of good news that we hear, and we keep on praying. Throughout each day and night, you are ever in our thoughts! Tonight, as I considered how some things change our lives forever, a verse came to mind that always comforts me: Heb. 13:8, "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever." He uses all things to shape us into His image, all the while that He remains steadily the same. What a Rock! May your eyes look to Him and your spirits rest in Him. In His Love, Gaylard & Sharon

I am so happy Shea that your family can crawl in bed with you and give comfort and closeness as you sleep. I keep hearing "The First Noel" in my head so I will sing it to you tonight

The first Noel the angels did say
was to certain poor shepherds in
fields as they lay
In fields where they lay keeping their sheep
On a cold winters night that was so deep.
Noel Noel Noel Noel born is the king of Israel

Heavenly Father every day I read of some improvement in Shea's recovery. All praise goes to you. As You calmed the waters in the raging storm You calmed her body so that she could sleep. How comforting it is to know that You never leave her room. Thank you,Father. Amen

I just discovered something our girls had done that really touched my heart. They have a photo of Shea they keep on the shelf between their beds as a reminder to pray for her. When I walked in their room a few minutes ago, they had made a type of prayer alter for her. They had made a vase of tissue-paper flowers and decorated their shelf with ribbons and right in the middle - Shea's picture. "We want people to remember to pray for her" Mia said. Now I know why Jesus said we need to come to Him as a little child - what faith!

So glad to hear Shea is finally resting!

Shea!!! Good morning sleeping beauty! Wow I'm so glad to hear you finaly got some rest. i know how invigorating it feels after a good night's sleep. Right now, i wish I could just hibernate for a few DAYS!!! Things have been so busy and crazy around here.
And I heard you had a bit of scare with coughing and then starting to choke. I will pray that doesn't happen again. Shea, I pray you will have a full recovery. And that you will have a sense of peace, that this anxiety and worry, the tossing and turning will susbside. i can understand, not completelty of course, but I know what panic attacks are like and Satan uses them as such a footstool for Christians. but how awesome that God can fight those for you, he is such a protector.
so what is going on with your cd? It will be such a joy to pop it in my stero and feel close to you even though you are miles and miles away! i love you, and be sure to get plenty of sleep......

Hey hey,
The Lord is worthy of praise. His love is everlasting.I continue to realize that this is all because of Him. He will recieve all the glory for this and many will be amazed; just as they were in the streets where Jesus healed the lame and the sick. May He continue to show you His never-ending love for you Shea. You are loved and cared about.
Blessings to you friend,
Jordan
